Responsibilities:
Maintain effective safety programs to ensure an injury free workplace.
Assist the Station to ensure regulatory compliance with all Federal, State and local regulations and associated permits.
Assist the Station in achieving all station safety related targets, including all site specific and Company safety compliance initiatives.
Ensure alignment of individual, team, station, and corporate safety initiatives and goals.
Coordinate communication and act as the single point-of-contact with corporate safety group.
Ensure technical support and training is provided to all station personnel in compliance with all relative occupational health and safety standards.
This includes but is not limited to Generation Station Emergency Plan, Confined Space Entry, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection, Personal Protection Equipment, and Fire Protection.
Ensure station-specific hazard awareness training is conducted to help address basic safety compliance, refresher training, as well as hazard awareness.
Conduct industrial hygiene sampling.
Maintain site records and generate required reports for all areas of occupational health and safety.
Responsible for safety performance tracking, trending, and analyses for the Station.
Assess injury and illness trends and recommend and initiate measures to improve performance.
Oversee, and implement actions to address observation findings from station safety and health compliance audit.
Direct the implementation of best safety management practices.
Conduct and provide oversight on incident investigations and assist in the development and execution of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Recommend strategies and programs to improve Safety performance within the station and company.
Oversees and actively updates environmental compliance programs in assigned area of responsibility (air, water, or solid waste management).
Keeps all levels of the facility personnel aware of environmental regulations and pending changes.
Educates, clarifies, and simplifies environmental regulations, policies, and procedures into understandable and operations terms.
Effectively maintains high level of knowledge and understanding of environmental regulations, policies, and procedures into understandable operations terms.
Effectively maintains high level for knowledge and understanding of environmental regulations and how they apply to the facility in the areas of air, water, and solid waste management.
Develops and provides necessary training of plant personnel so that all facility employees have the knowledge and skills to comply and enforce environmental regulations and policies.
Training should emphasize Environmental over Production - prevention, individual responsibility and commitment.
Responsible for assigned facility environmental inspection programs to proactively detect correct and minimize the impact of any non-compliance issues.
Responsible for preparing and coordinating internal and external environmental audits.
Escorts environmental regulatory inspections on any site visits and inspections.
Facilitate pre and post meetings with the regulatory inspectors.
Document and communicate any corrective actions and/or potential notice of violations to facility management.
Keeps the facility's management updated on existing or modified environmental regulations that may impact the productivity of facility operations.
Provides corrective action recommendations as needed.
Prepares periodic regulatory and compliance updates for plant management and regional environmental group and attends periodic regional conference calls and meetings (biweekly to quarterly).
Maintains existing permit reporting, renewal and related document requirements as required by law per assigned area of responsibility, air, water, solid waste management, etc.
Utilizes and updates environmental records management, including company's environmental management information systems.
Maintains and updates environmental manuals and procedures whenever required by agencies and by changes in operations, regulations, interpretations or company policy directives.
Completes Inspections and sampling (Stormwater) as required.
QUALIFICATIONS Required Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, technical, and/or related discipline, or a High school diploma or equivalent and the equivalent combination of related experience and formal training.
Minimum five years of power plant, occupational health and safety, and/or industrial experience.
Ability to provide technical expertise and functional direction to station personnel related to station occupational health and safety issues.
Experience with using industrial hygiene monitoring equipment.
Ability to interpret applicable occupational health and safety standards, and regulations that impact the station.
Preferred:
Power plant experience.
Advanced degree, ASP or CSP Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesExcellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively train and direct others (peers, employees, contractors/vendors).
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Knowledge of power plant processes and equipment.
Knowledge of plant operations and maintenance requirements.

This position is a combination of work in office and industrial settings.
Must be able to wear required personal protection equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, goggles, face shields, hearing protection, respirators, fall protection harnesses, and other PPE as required.
Duties require extensive manual dexterity in usage of computer terminal and keyboard, while sitting for long periods of time preparing budgets, work scopes, outage schedules, and other reports as needed.
May be required to perform equipment inspections by climbing vertical ladders in excess of 20 feet and stairways in excess of 50 feet, using step stool, kneeling, bending, walking over uneven surfaces such as loose rock, open grating, up and down staircases.
May be required to work long hours, nights, or weekends as circumstances demand.
May be required to safely work in extreme heat and extreme cold.
May be required to prepare and conduct training, including mentoring individuals one-on-one.
In conducting training, may be required to carry training materials, and to stand for extended periods of time.
Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, and to operate standard office equipment.
The position occasionally bends, stoops, reaches, pushes and pulls drawers to retrieve file information and lifts and carries boxes that typically weigh less than 10 pounds.
This position may require some domestic travel.
